The Legacy Planning Desk
Philosophy

Andrew Keehn
Andrew began his career as a traditional financial advisor. Early on, he recognized that proactive tax planning was rarely part of the financial-planning conversation. When taxes were discussed, the advice was often the same: defer taxes and postpone the tax problem until sometime in the future, usually retirement.
That realization led him into the tax industry. Once there, he discovered a similar problem. Tax preparation generally focuses on reporting what has already happened, while proactive tax planning—helping clients make better decisions before the tax consequences occur—is rarely included.
Andrew began to see just how underserved business owners are by both the traditional financial-services model and the tax industry. Financial advice is often delivered in separate pieces, while tax preparation tends to focus on reporting what has already happened.
Andrew believes business owners need more than isolated advice from separate areas of the financial world. They need a planning process that considers how taxes, cash flow, retirement, estate planning, insurance, business succession, and long-term wealth decisions affect one another.
His experience in financial planning and tax preparation led him to study strategic tax planning and ultimately create Legacy Planning Desk.
Professional development is an important part of Andrew’s work. He spends approximately five hours each week studying taxes, estate planning, business succession, retirement planning, insurance strategies, and other areas that may affect his clients.
Andrew believes continuous education is necessary to provide thoughtful, informed guidance and to better understand how one decision may affect another.
Outside of work, Andrew is actively involved in coaching youth wrestling. He also enjoys spending time in his garden and working on his homestead, where he grows much of his own food. He enjoys the outdoors, riding mountain bikes, and staying active just about any way he can.
